What is AQL?

AQL - Acceptable Quality Level

The Acceptable Quality Level, also commonly referred to AQL, is a statistical method that allows us to determine the quality of a production. ISO2859 tables, also known as AQL tables, are used to calculate the acceptable quality level of a product.

How do I determine the adequate sampling size and the acceptable number of mistakes?
Hypothetically speaking; for an inspection of a lot of 5,000 pieces, with a quality acceptable level II (table 1). Table 2 indicates the sample size should be 200 units. And for an AQL 2.5 the acceptable level that corresponds is 10.

How do the results of an inspection based on the AQL tables help me?
In the case that the production has been accepted, this will mean that 2.5% of the production are defected units. If the number of defected pieces is greater than 10%, the production has to be rejected because it does not meet the established quality standards.

Depending on the results, you will need to directly inform your supplier about your final decision. You can decide to accept, reject, repair, or even replace the defected products.
